Coaching young athletes on an athletic field is one of the most amazing experiences for any coach. For example, when I was coaching a U12 girls soccer team it came with its challenges. Each of players came with a different personality and they were motivated were different ways. One girl may have needed words that lifted her confidence, while another needed me to push her or challenge her. I have always felt that it was my job as a coach to get to know each of my players.
I have also been on the other side as a parent. I have seen coaches on the sideline where they barely knew my kids name and it seemed as of they were there just going through the motions. They may have understood the sport that they were coaching, but they did not understand people and communication.
Does a cookie cutter approach work in coaching?
